Do I need a reservation for group classes, or can I just show up?

You do not need to make a reservation for our group activities. You may just show up.

  • Start anytime.
  • No reservation, partner, or enrollment is needed. You may come alone or with others. Drop-ins are welcome.
  • Adults only (18+). Please bring a valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., cédula, passport, passport card, driver's license).

Do I need to bring a partner to take group dance classes?

No. You do not need to bring a partner for our group dance classes. We rotate partners frequently.

  • Start anytime.
  • No reservation, partner, or enrollment is needed. You may come alone or with others. Drop-ins are welcome.
  • Adults only (18+). Please bring a valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., cédula, passport, passport card, driver's license).

Please note:

  • Because our group dance classes welcome drop-ins, there is sometimes an imbalance of leaders and followers. Our instructors do their best to manage partner rotation so everyone has a positive and productive learning experience. Balancing instruction with partner rotation isn't easy, so we appreciate your patience and cooperation. By working together as a community, we can help make the experience more enjoyable and rewarding for everyone.
  • We recommend rotating partners because it helps you become a more confident and versatile dancer, but it isn't required. If you and the person you came with prefer to stay together throughout the class, simply let the instructor(s) know as early as possible, ideally before class begins, so they can exclude you from the rotation and inform the rest of the group.

How many students are there in each group class?

There are typically 40 to 150 students in each group class.

Do you offer group classes in English?

Our group classes are in Spanish, with some English assistance depending on the instructors in each class.

For private classes, you may choose your instructor(s). Our instructors have varying levels of English, from some understanding to fluent. You can view the level of English understanding of each instructor on our online availability page for private classes at www.dancefree.com.co/availability.

How do I know the level of each group dance class?

The level of each group class indicates the amount of dance experience generally expected for that class. You can find the level of each group class on our website calendar. The following are general guidelines for the levels you may see:

  • New to Beginner: For newer and beginner-level dancers.
  • Beginner: For beginner-level dancers.
  • Beginner to Intermediate: For beginner to lower-intermediate-level dancers.
  • Intermediate: For intermediate-level dancers.
  • Intermediate to Advanced: For intermediate to lower-advanced-level dancers.
  • All Levels: Open to all levels and similar to Beginner to Intermediate.

Our group classes on Mondays (salsa), Tuesdays (bachata), and Wednesdays (salsa) currently include 3 levels: New to Beginner, Beginner to Intermediate, and Intermediate to Advanced. These classes generally begin with all levels stretching, warming up, and doing individual work (without a partner) together. After a short break (generally about two songs), the class is divided into the different levels for partner work, each with its own instructor(s).

On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, there are often simultaneous group classes held in separate rooms before the social. Each group class has its own instructor(s), rhythm, and level, as indicated on our website calendar. For example, there may be two separate, simultaneous classes, one for Beginner and the other for Intermediate.

Please note:

  • We may adjust the level(s) of each group class as needed, depending on the students attending each class.

Which group dance class level is right for me?

If you are not sure which group class level is right for you, please consider the following:

  • We do not currently offer a separate level for students with no prior dance experience. However, if you feel comfortable, you are welcome to participate in our group dance classes marked as New to Beginner, Beginner, and All Levels on our website calendar.
  • The most basic group class level we currently offer is New to Beginner, generally offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, as indicated on our website calendar.
  • If you have previous dance experience but are not sure which level is right for you, we recommend starting with a lower level and moving up as you feel comfortable.
  • If you would like to feel more comfortable in our group classes and dance socials, we recommend also taking private classes. Private classes are 1-on-1 with your own instructor(s) and allow us to teach at your own pace, focus on the areas you would like to improve, practice with you, and provide feedback to help you become a comfortable and confident dancer. We offer private classes for all levels, from new students (no prior experience) to advanced.
